In a recent Texas REALTOR® LinkedIn poll, 51% of respondents expressed interest in starting a real estate-related podcast to promote their business. The versatile format is a perfect channel for showcasing your real estate knowledge and offering advice to prospective clients.
Here are six questions to consider before creating a podcast:
Is it expensive to get started?
There are a lot of free or low-cost recording, editing, and AI tools available to download, such as Audacity, Descript, and GarageBand (Mac only). Check to see if there is one preloaded on your computer or laptop.
Do you need to buy a microphone?
A lousy recording or background noise can turn listeners off. While you don’t need a top-of-the-line microphone, you will get better sound quality than your laptop’s.
Whether using a stand or handheld, position your mouth roughly 6-8 inches from the mic to avoid feedback.
How much do you need to prepare?
Creating a simple structure will set you up for success. For example, have a standard intro where you tell people who you are and what you will share. At the end, give a quick recap and let the listener know how they can reach you. If you are nervous, write a script or use notecards to keep yourself from getting off track. Do a couple of run-throughs to get past the jitters. Whatever doesn’t work, you can always edit it out.
Can you record anywhere?
For the best results, find a small room without windows. A space with sound-absorbing materials such as carpets, curtains, pillows, or even a closet filled with clothes helps minimize echo and reverb.
What should you talk about?
To grow your podcast audience, it is important to consistently create new and interesting content. Do you have a niche? Share stories and real estate topics you are passionate about that help buyers and sellers understand the real estate market. You can also interview other experts in the field, which is a great way to promote your network.
How do you promote it?
Once you’ve completed the audio track, publish the file to a free podcast hosting platform, such as SoundCloud. Then, add it to your website, share it on social media, and upload it to podcast directories like Spotify, Sticher, Google Podcast, and Apple Podcasts.
Get the most out of your podcast content by publishing it on YouTube for a wider audience and using an AI tool to transcribe each episode into a blog.
